West Side Story

One of the greatest musicals of all time. Written by Arthur Laurents, with a score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. It is of course a retelling of the Romeo and Juliet story set in the 1950s in New York City, with the rivalry of Puerto Rican gang and an Anglo gang substituted for the Montagues and the Capulets. It had been brilliantly directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins for the stage. Robert Wise directed the film version. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards.
