Director Nobuhiko Obayashi's gonzo Japanese horror classic HAUSU (HOUSE) comes to The Frida Cinema!
Set against psychedelic Technicolor vistas, and employing such a variety of film, music, and sound techniques as to suggest the film takes place in a kaleidoscope from hell, HAUSU is the tale of a schoolgirl who travels with her six classmates to her ailing aunt's country home. Soon they find themselves at the mercy of one angry house, filled with murderous household appliances, carnivorous instruments, and famously, a very wicked cat.
HAUSU was a huge youth hit when it was released in Japan in 1977, but amazingly it didn't hit US screens for over 30 years! Janus Films finally brought the film stateside in 2009, and unleashed an instant art house sensation! An unforgettable cult cinema experience.
